A Tourist Tour to the Mekong Delta

We did the unthinkable and booked a proper tourist tour – two days, one night in a homestay – to the Mekong Delta as I really wanted to explore a bit more of this unbelievably huge river that we had first time met in the Golden Triangle. This trip reminded us very much of why we travel the way we do, meaning independent, as slow as possible and on the road less traveled. Every hour or so our group of 20-40 people would stop at somebody’s restaurant serving mediocre, but western compliant food, a souvenir stand or another “attraction” that offers “typical local products”. Oh well, on the upside we got a few boat rides, a bit of bush trekking and met a few travellers that allowed me to practice my German. It’s been a while.
