Dikencik cottages – our “mountain hut”

HelpX, our volunteering network of choice brought us to Dikencik. It’s been a while since we were last helpxing in Hungary, and we missed it. HelpX is great as it not only allows us to stay longer in a certain place (and time to work on our blog backlog), but learn a lot about food, living in sync with nature as well as from others’ life experience. It’s a great way to explore a culture and get valuable advise and recommendations on what to do and where to go.

Ayşe & Cengiz were no exception, when going through the helpx.net website and planning our stay in Turkey, we discovered that an Australian cyclist couple had posted a short clip on Youtube.

It was only after our arrival that we found out, that Dikencik Cottages have outstanding reviews on tripadvisor and receive the Certificate of Excellence year after year. Rightly so!

The cottage is located in a mountain range a few kilometres north of the coastline. Down on the beach its 20 degrees, up here 7 less and therefore significantly colder. We do get plenty of sun nonetheless. It’s a beautiful location, 4km away from the next village Yeşilüzümlü where 700 Brits are permanent residents, escaping British weather I assume. It rains about once or twice a week, our hosts kindly allowed us these days off so we sit in our hut, fire the wood burning stove and position the antennas to catch wireless internet Interrupted by great food only 🙂

We had an amazing time in this beautiful, tranquil place in the middle of nowhere and cannot wait to be back!
