The “Albanian” Macedonia

Leaving Skopje we were heading west to Tetovo or Tetovë as the predominantly Albanian population in this region calls it. Felt different right away. We head something like celebrity status from the first minute. Everybody waving, kids shouting “Hello!”, “Where are you from?” non stop. Difficult to pay for coffee. (Still – Honestly, I cannot remember when I paid last time).

After escaping numerous roadside conversations in German, Polish and Serbian/ Macedonian we were eventually camping wild and fell asleep with the evening prayer from 3 mosques in the valley. Woken up by the morning prayer 11h later. Wow – havent slept that long in ages. Today we climb up to 1300m to Mavrovo (lake) National Park.
